The Borg An immensely powerful civilization that's said to have originated in the Delta Quadrant of the galaxy, the Borg are linked to one another by a group mind--Whose mission is to incorporate other species into their collective. This translate into unremittingly aggressive behavior. No one in the Federation can forget the Borg invasion in 2366 (Now called the battle of Wolf 359) , in which a single Borg vessels destroyed no less then 39 Starfleet ships in a failed attempt to reach earth. The second Borg invasion was also a disaster, this time the Borg almost succeeded on assimilating Earth. If it weren't for the Enterprise the Borg would have won. If you sight a cube shaped vessel (The kind the Borg have been seen in) withdraw as quickly as possible and notify Starfleet authorities. The Enterprise-D had such an encounter and it killed some of the crew. The Borg even manage to assimilate their captain (Captain Jean Luc Picard). If you're captured by the Borg, Resistance is Futile, you'll be surgically outfitted with cybernetic devices and assimilated into their collective. Borg Ships: Quoted from Star Trek Federation Travel Guide Ferengi The Ferengi are technological advance humanoid civilization first encountered by the Federation in 2364. Ferengi society is highly regulated and ruthlessly embraces the principles of capitalism. On Ferenginar (Capital city of the Ferengis), everything is negotiable and anything can be had for the right amount of latinum. The Ferengi Rule of Acquisitions are not laws but guidelines for proper behavior. Children are expected to memorize them, all 285 of them, and repeat them on command. The first rule is, "Once you have their money, you never give it back." Several other rules indicate that family and friends are less important than paying customers-unless, of course, you can exploit family and friends for profit. Ferengi ships: Quoted from Star Trek Federation Travel Guide Karemma Humanoid civilization from the Gamma Quadrant, part of the Dominion. Quark established a trade agreement with the Karemma for purchase of tulaberry wine. The Karemma used Ferengi as intermediaries in their commerce with the Federation, because they knew the dominion would never tolerate direct trade between the Karemma and the Federation. The Karemma were naive when it came to business dealings, and the Ferangi took advantage of them for a time. The only contact the Karemma had with the rest of the Dominion was through the Vorta. Maquis Paramilitary organiztion of former Federation citizens formed at the colonies affected by the border changes wrought by the Federation-Cardassian Treaty of 2370. The Maquis grew in response to Cardassian hostilities toward these colonies and the perception that they had been abandoned by the Federation goverment. Members of the Maquis had often been victims of violence directed toward them by the Cardassian military. They felt the intention was to force them from their homes, and many choose to fight rather than leave. The Maquis was organized in series of cells, with the leaders of each cell knowing the whereabouts of the other cells. A number of Starfleet officers were sympathetic to the Maquis situation and iether provided them with weapons, or left Starfleet to join their ranks. By 2372, members of the Maquis were no longer considered to be citizens of the Federation. The name Maquis was used by members of the French underground in World War II. Maquis Vessel
