The Klingon Empire

The Klingon empire has been in existence for 1500 years at the time of first contact by the Federation in 2218. The empire was founded by Kahless the unforgettable. Warlike, proud, fearless and quite ruthless, the Klingons are aggressive beings and they were a threat to the United Federation of Planets until their key energy factory located on the moon Praxis exploded polluting the whole empire with deadly gas. Due to the tight Klingon military budget the Klingons could not clean their polluted empire. So the Klingons turned to the Federation for help & peace negotiation and thus the Khitomer peace negotiation took place, ending a century of hostilities.

The Federation-Klingon alliance was recently shattered when the Klingons launches a major invasion of Cardassia, which the Federation refused to support. However, recognizing the threat posed by the Dominion to both Klingon and Federation interest, Klingon High Council leader Gowron later revalidated the alliance.

It is unknown whether the Klingons only produce and use a few ships or if they keep their other ships Top Secret. Federation studies on Klingon warship found only 5 classes of ships.
