Danube Class

The Danube class starships, often referred to as "Runabouts," are the smallest registered vessels in Starfleet. While sometimes mistaken for large shuttlecraft, Danube’s are not shuttlecraft at all. The Danube was designed to be a long-range craft with the ability to travel at high warp speeds for upwards of 40 consecutive days. It has very powerful shields and a potent weapons array for a craft of its size. The Danube is above all a multipurpose craft. Its modular design allows it to be used for missions ranging from research to ferrying to close combat. A pod, which contains mission specific equipment such as extra weapons or sensors, can be attached above the wings. Additionally, the central compartment of the ship can be replaced with other mission specific equipment pods if needed. Danube’s have found a particular niche at starbases as general-purpose craft, especially at deep space stations where a starship is not always readily at hand. The Danube is perfect for occasional missions away from the starbase since it requires only one person to pilot it (though it can contain up to 16 people comfortably). The Danube class will likely remain in service for quite some time due to its adaptability and potency.
